How I Prepare my Body for Summer

Finally, the sun is starting to peep out through the clouds and it is starting to feel a little more like Spring. Time to bring out the pretty dresses and shorts which means a lot more skin will be on show. But let's face it, the British weather doesn't necessarily prepare our bodies for that Summer glow, so I turn to fake tan. Every Sunday I stick to my trusty tanning routine.

Products used

An exfoliant mitt (£1 from Tesco)
Tanning mitt (around £3 from Boots)
Body wash I am currently using - Nivea Pearl & Beauty Cream Oil (0.97 p 250 ml from Boots)
Moisturiser I am currently using - Jergens Original Body Lotion Cherry Almond (£3.49 200 ml)
St Tropez Bronzing Mouse 240 ml (I buy mine on ebay between £12 and £19)
Palmer's Natural Bronze Gradual Tanning Moisturiser (£5.35 Boots)
Clarins Liquid Bronze Self Tanner 125 ml (I buy mine from ebay £18 - £20)

Body Tan

Sunday Morning I use my exfoliant mitt with the Nivea body wash to remove all of the remaining tan and dead skin cells on the top layer of my skin. This prevents any horrible orange tan patches and leaves the skin surface smooth and prepared for the moisturiser. I use Jergen's daily moisturiser which I am loving. I can noticeably feel the smoothness it has on my skin and I love the subtle almond scent it leaves.

I have a day free of tan. It's a little break in between the routine and lets the moisturiser sink into the skin before applying tan in the evening.

Sunday evening about an hour before I hope into bed, I apply St Tropez Bronzing Mouse onto my tanning mitt and apply all over my body. Despite trying other tanning products, Xen tan, L'oreal, I always come back to St Tropez. It lasts well on my skin; about a week, and I don't consider the price too expensive.

Every morning during the week I apply my moisturiser to maintain my tan and mid week I use Palmer's Natural Bronze Gradual Tanning Moisturiser in the evening. Palmer's isn't too sticky and sinks into my skin quickly.

Face Tan

To tan my face I use Clarins Liquid Bronze every other evening and use my regular moisturiser underneath. To prepare my skin for the face tan I exfoliate with a muslin cloth or my Claisonic Mia.

Et voila, by Monday I am a tanned goddess.

  1. I have really been thinking about trying fake tan, I spend so much time with my skin covered up that I look like I'm pure white when I get my legs or arms out. Some great tips in here! Think I'm going to try some of these :)
